The SCORE Store, sometimes referred to as the Free Store, provides essential food, hygiene items, clothing, and everyday necessities to students who need them. It is a quiet, dignified, and powerful resource inside the school community. Students can access items like ramen noodles, granola bars, cereal, applesauce, laundry detergent, cleaning wipes, gloves, coats, and other essentials. For some students, these are not extras. They are lifelines.
One of the programs we are especially proud to support is the SCORE Store at Saugerties High School.
The store operates with compassion and discretion. It removes barriers that can stand between a student and their education. When a young person does not have to worry about food, warm clothing, or basic hygiene supplies, they can focus on learning, participating, and building their future.
The Kiwanis Club of Saugerties has supported the SCORE Store for several years, including an annual financial contribution to help keep the shelves stocked and the program running strong. At a recent club meeting, SCORE Store Advisor Keely Blum joined us to share updates about the program and the growing needs within the school. She also provided a list of items currently in short supply, including nonperishable food and hygiene products. Our members were inspired not only by the need, but by the dedication of the staff and volunteers who make the store possible.
We believe that supporting programs like the SCORE Store is exactly what community service should look like. It is local. It is practical. It is immediate. And it directly supports the well being of young people right here in Saugerties.
We encourage others in our community to consider supporting the SCORE Store, whether through financial contributions, food and hygiene donations, or simply by helping spread awareness. Small acts, when multiplied across a community, create real impact.
