Upstate Films started as a single-screen, nonprofit theater in Rhinebeck in 1972 — an idea from a few friends who wanted to bring the wider world of film to the Hudson Valley. More than 50 years and 7,000 titles later, it's grown into a regional institution, and in 2021 the nonprofit took on its boldest rescue yet: buying and restoring Saugerties' historic three-screen Orpheum Theatre, whose marquee now reads “Cinema for Everyone.”
The Kiwanis Club of Saugerties has partnered with Upstate Films to help keep that marquee lit. In a thank-you note, the organization wrote: “Your collaboration helps us bring independent films and community events throughout the Hudson Valley.”
The Kiwanis Club of Saugerties is proud to help keep the Orpheum's doors — and its story — open for another generation of moviegoers.
